The Winterblades community has been playing together in various forms since Ultima Online back in 1998. Over the years, through skill, determination, and dedication, the guild developed into one of the premiere guilds in the open pvp-MMO Shadowbane. Our joint struggles and sacrifices have forged an enduring camaraderie that will remain long after Darkfall has come and gone.
We are above all a community. We have all developed a trust in each other and in the guild and understand that in contributing to the guild we help ourselves. Often you will hear our members speaking of a guild-first attitude and that is really one of the most fundamental things about our players. Everyone contributing to the guild is what has given the Winterblades the durability and strength to survive together for almost a decade. We are not an association of players that band together out of convenience in-game or for fear of death and loss of assets. Those are poor reasons to form a guild. Individuals who place their own narrow interests above all else are not welcome in our ranks.
Another of our great strengths as a guild is the quality of our members. We have always favored quality over quantity. We count in our ranks some of the best individual players, including former Shadowbane class advocates, focus group members and community leaders, but that is not what made the Winterblades successful. Many guilds suffer from leadership problems, having either too few or too many leaders. Other guilds can’t keep their members from each others throats or constantly suffer from individuals believing they have not been justly rewarded. Other guilds cannot maintain activity when their top leaders are not around. This has never been a problem in the Winterblades. Our members listen to orders and are intelligent and mature enough to work to further the greater good. Our members have all shown initiative and judgment, which combined with their guild-first attitudes makes leading this guild not devolve into drudgery.
“The measure of a man is not the respect of his friends, but the respect of his enemies.” The respect the Winterblades have enjoyed amongst our former foes is one of our greatest sources of pride. Our success on the battlefield, our stability as a guild, and the quality of our leadership can be measured not only by the members, but by the actions of our former rivals. We have had multiple guilds, that were once amongst our greatest foes, sub or merge into the Winterblades after meeting us in the field. The respect the Winterblades have gained amongst our former rivals represents some of our greatest achievements.
Lastly, many guilds will enter into Darkfall with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. A few moments skimming through the Darkfall Clan forums reveals the whole spectrum of guilds that will be present in Darkfall. From the true roleplaying guilds, the “Honor” zerg guilds, the rpk “uber-l33ts”, all types players and guilds are drawn to Darkfall. The Winterblades offers what most of these forum guilds cannot. We have longstanding proven success and experience in pvp mmos. Unlike the forums guilds, we have nothing to prove, we have already “been there and done that.” We understand the political nature of games like Darkfall. With almost a decade of experience to draw on, the Winterblades offers what few other guilds can. We have the wisdom and experience to successfully and quickly adapt to mechanical and political exigencies that the freedom that Darkfall bestows upon us. We have the indispensable dedication of a guild-first community, the proven experience necessary to excel, and the leadership and organization required to succeed.
The Winterblades are now looking to expand our community. We are seeking mature players interested in becoming part of something greater than themselves. The strength of our community is built upon the quality and commitment of our members to the guild. We welcome any who wish to enjoy the true camaraderie of brothers/friends/guildmates to fill out an application.
For more information on the Winterblades we welcome and encourage prospective recruits to take a look at our History, Library and Forums to get a stronger sense of the Winterblades community.
What Others Have to Say About the Winterblades:
In the last 5 years I think the only thing I can think of on these boards that has not disgusted me or pissed me off is the Winterblades posts that were just made. When I think about it I have mad respect for The Shipwrecked Pirates too. They just never seemed to be as fun as WB though
--Ciliano, House of Errants
Winterblades was a respected guild in gold, I remember pvping with your people and they were skilled.
--Paleone, Redemption Guild Leader
WB was one of the most respected guild's in Shadowbane, not only in Shadowbane as WB, or.. the Sandpact... but also in UO as Atomic Godz.
--Boss, Formerly of Undead Army
